Pasta Puttanesca


  • 2-3 cups cooked penne pasta (or other shapes as you like)

  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil 

  • 2-3 cups tomatoes (fresh or canned)

  • ½ medium size onion, chopped

  • 2-3 cloves garlic, chopped

  • ½ cup olives, chopped

  • 2 tablespoons small capers

  • 3-4 pieces of anchovies

  • Fresh basil 

  • Salt and pepper to taste 

  • Red pepper flakes (optional)


  • Cook pasta as directed on the container, set aside

  • In a pan, sauté onions and garlic with olive oil

  • Add tomatoes, and half of the basil 

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Add anchovies, red pepper flakes, olives, capers 

  • Sauté and then simmer at least 20 minutes

  • Add cooked pasta to the pan, mix well

  • Garnish with the rest of fresh basil
